Act 3, Scene 1: The Duke of Florence is disappointed that the King of France does not offer him any official aid in his war.
Act 3, Scene 2: The Countess receives a letter from her son explaining what happened, and that he intends to volunteer his services to the Duke of Florence. He tells her that he will not return to France until he doesn't have a wife anymore. The Countess is very upset with her son because she approves of Helena very much. Helena returns and tells the Countess of the letter she received that states her husband will never give her his ring or bed her. Everyone exits, but Helena who decides to leave France so Bertram can return because she is scared about him serving in the war.
