Analysis: The sympathetic development of Vernet’s character continues as we watch him bravely and intelligently drive Sophie and Langdon away from the bank himself, thinking quickly in order to avoid Collet’s attentions. Most amusing, perhaps, is his offer to sell Collect his Rolex—which he pretends is a fake—for only forty euro!
