In this scene, Shylock runs into Solanio and Salerio and they ask him if he will truly take the pound of flesh from Antonio if the debt is not repaid. He says he will, for it is revenge and a Jew can take revenge just as a Christian would take revenge. He points out all of the wrongs Antonio has done him and says, "I am a Jew, if you prick us do we not bleed?...And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge? (III.i.60)." He is distracted by Tubal a fellow Jew who comes with more certain word that Antonio's ship did sink and the cargo was lost. On the darker side, there has been no luck in finding Shylock's daughter but she is spending his money rapidly and he shows more concern for this than for her well-being.
