Summary of “Style”
In a village that the company burned, they see a Vietnamese girl of fourteen dancing on her toes around the burned-out huts. There is no music. Azar keeps asking why she is dancing. Is it part of a ritual? They find that in her house all her family is dead. Later, Azar mocks the girl's dancing in his movements. Dobbins liftsAzar and asks him if he wants to be dumped down the well.
Commentary on “Style”
The girl is dancing from grief and shock obviously, and Azar is one of the grosser soldiers who makes fun of the dead. Dobbins is a decent man and does not want him to mock the girl.
