The Disguised Duke- the duke in the play was ultimately a good character, and in his disguise he could have been Shakespeare's representation of God. He watched over the proceedings of the play with an absolute power, and in the end, gave punishment and absolution to those who deserved it. Unlike Angelo who abused his power, the Duke seemed to be a pure man.
