Barnadine decides he doesn't want to die, so the men decide to send the head of a man who had died that morning of a disease. They doctor it up so it looks like Claudio and send it to Angelo. The Friar gives directions that Barnadine and Claudio be put into a hidden prison so Angelo doesn't find out they still live. Isabella comes to inquire after her brother, and the Friar tells her that her brother has been killed. He then tells her that the duke will return soon, and she can then get revenge on Angelo.
