Petruchio arrives late for his own wedding, and Katherine, before he shows, weeps because of it. Everyone is worried about him, but when he finally shows up dressed terribly, they think he's gone mad. Everyone leaves but Tranio and Lucentio, and they exchange information. The wedding takes place, but Petruchio continues to act odd and abusive. When the ceremony is finished, Petruchio refuses to stay for the feast saying that he has something to do. Katherine entreats him, but he insists she leave with him. He pretends to be protecting her from her family and friends intrusion, and they leave. Baptista still offers the feast to his guest and to Tranio (as Lucentio) he offers the place of the bridegroom with Bianca at his side.
