Bianca and the true Lucentio visit the priest who performs their marriage. After they leave, Vincentio, Katherine, Petruchio, and Hortensio arrive at Lucentio's house. The Merchant (disguised as Vincentio) turns the real Vincentio away saying he is a fraud. Vincentio asks to see his son, and Tranio is brought forward. Vincentio becomes angry and Baptista arrives wondering what is going on. Vincentio thinks that the men murdered his son, and starts beating up Biondello who is also at the house. An officer is brought to take the real Vincentio to jail, but before he is dragged away, the real Lucentio arrives with his new bride, and explains to all the disguises. He asks his father's forgiveness for marrying so hastily, and almost getting him thrown in jail. His father is still angry, and leaves. Baptista is stunned, but accepting of the ploy. Petruchio asks to kiss Katherine, and she accepts.
