Summary
The Truands have gathered in their tavern and are noisily drinking, eating and arming themselves with all sorts of rude weapons. One of the chief noisemakers is Jehan Frollo who, having turned Truand, has given himself completely over to debauchery. The Truands haphazardly prepare themselves to storm Notre Dame and rescue Esmeralda while Pierre Gringoire sits in the corner and thoughtfully stares into the crackling fire. At the stroke of midnight Clopin Trouillefou, the king of the Truands, leads them riotously into the streets dressed in a full suit of armor.
